This is the truth about how taking my first Authentic Relating course called the ART of Being Human turned me into an advocate for trauma survivors and why I’m here now asking for your help.

In the documentary, The Wisdom of Trauma, Dr. Gabor Mate says “Every human being has a true genuine authentic self and trauma is our disconnection from it and healing is our re-connection with it.”

How do you break the cycle of hurt people, hurting people? I don’t have all the answers, but one thing I’ve witnessed is the importance of creating a connection to your own authentic humanity. The mission of Realness Project is to change the culture of incarceration by empowering human connection.

I am booking my 5th flight to Denver in the past 7 months to facilitate Authentic Relating workshops with inmates in prison where I share tools of conscious communication and conflict transformation that when practiced, have upleveled the quality of relationships in my life. I had no idea my investment in Authentic Relating Leadership Certification would lead me to work with incarcerated women… but here I am, compelled to do so. Saying yes and showing up. 

May 12 - May 31, 2022, I hosted my first fundraiser in support of the work that I’m doing right now with RP!

I reached 73% of my goal by the deadline, which paid for nearly 15 women to be 100% sponsored to attend a 4-month RLT program (Relational Leadership Training) that I am co-leading in Pueblo, Colorado. The mission behind this work is to change the culture of incarceration by empowering human connection. Without more human connection behind bars, we add more trauma to the mix, and are failing to rehabilitate. Realness Project is helping Correctional Facilities improve the quality of humans re-entering society.

Moving forward, the need for funding doesn’t end with these 15 women. Our programs have waitlists. 60 women signed up for a 20 person workshop, this is typical with our other prison programs too.

As part of my ongoing commitment to show up as a facilitator and share the practices of Authentic Relating with women behind bars, I am asking for you to consider becoming a guest donor to make our signature 2-day ART of Being Human workshop available to more inmates.

THIS is how we reduce the population in prison. Recidivism is at an all time high. Mental Health Issues are at an all time high. Connection is the antidote to depression, anxiety and isolation. I experience this with my own eyes, ears, and beating heart, sitting in circle with the residents. I watch as they soften to themselves and each other… just by demonstrating the power of providing an empathic witness to their pain and allowing space for each one to feel seen and heard. This is the hardest and most rewarding work of my life.
